The Basic Formula
{Please see the page on tapping points to learn where the points referenced here are.)
The basic EFT formula is simple and goes like this:
1. You will start with an introductory statement or "set up phrase." This introductory statement is repeated as you either tap the karate chop point or rub the sore spot. The statement is phrased something like this:
Even though I [insert problem here], I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
This statement is repeated THREE TIMES.
Example: Even though I have this fear of flying, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
2. Then, repeat the problem as you go through the rest of the points. Usually the order is to start at the top of the head and work downwards, but you could go in any order that feels right to you.
You do not need to use the full introductory statement here. Just the problem phrase will do.
Example: I am afraid of flying.
That's it!
Now, it's a good idea to go through and try different aspects of a problem. For example, if your fear of flying is due to some heavy turbulence you experienced on a plane as a child, you might try a statement like:
That turbulence really scared me and I thought I was going to die.
Go through and tap on each aspect that comes up. You may need to do 10 or 20 rounds or more. Be persistent. Sometimes you may need to tap for a while for something to be cleared. Sometimes it might just take one round and you're done!
Please note, this is just a simple overview. Gary Craig usually includes what he calls a "gamut procedure" in between tapping rounds. This includes rolling your eyes around and humming a tune! Many EFT practitioners, however, do not use the gamut process, so do not worry about learning it as a beginner.
